Denim shirts sit at 6 oz, ultra skinny jeans at 9–10 oz. Average fit pants land in the 11–13 oz range, and full baggy jeans go up to 14–16 oz. Baggy jeans can also work at 12–13 oz — but if a customer who wants maximum fabric weight goes with a 14–16 oz 100% cotton fabric in a straight fit, that pant simply won’t be wearable. For a summer pant, a 10–11 oz Tencel-blend fabric is a solid choice. (Tencel fabric can be 100% cotton or with elastane.) Fabrics are typically measured in oz, but I’ve also included the GSM equivalents in the table below.
